Staying in Tune With Technology
Keeping abreast of new technology that could help my clients is extremely important to me. But, recently I learned that home automation is one area I need to pay even more attention to.
I received an email a couple of weeks ago from a woman who wanted me to install a cat toilet. When I read this, I was immediately suspicious. I receive lots of phishing emails and usually delete them immediately, but I decided to read on.
She stated that she had ordered an automated litter box, and when it arrived in a few days, she would need someone to install it.
She also provided a link to the product online so I could see exactly what she was talking about. I clicked on the link, and sure enough it was a self-cleaning litter box for cats, that works and looks just like a miniature toilet.
I knew right away that I had to take this job. I replied to her email, informing her that I’d never installed one, but was sure that I could figure it out. I am always up for a challenge, and continually push myself to learn and adapt as tehnology changes.
She called me four days later letting me know that the box had arrived. I drove to her home right away and got busy. It was really simple to install, but was much heavier than I was expecting.
During the installation, I had to change out the angle stop on the bathroom toilet to a double outlet. I connected the hose to the water, plugged in the power cord and it was up and running in about an hour. I usually don’t need instructions, but in this case I read them twice.
The only issue I experienced during the installation was that the bathroom only had electrical outlets at the vanity, so the cord to the litter box was always visible. I think installing this product in a laundry room would be more esthetically sound. Cleanliness isn’t an issue because the litter system automatically washes, sanitizes and dries the box, leaving it dust, odor, and germ free. The water and power from the washing machine can be used, and the hose and cord can be hidden behind the washer or dryer.
The litterbox also comes with information on how to train your cat to use the toilet.
Ultimately, the customer was happy and I learned something new.
